Zenkoji, Nagano City.

  • Zenkoji, Nagano City.
  • Experimenting with my macro lens
  • As part of an all day trip to Himeji/area and back to Kyoto, i decided to take a stroll around Kobe's Rokko island, formerly a hopeful site of business and residential expansion but now desolate landscape full of half-empty apartments and shopping areas. This shot was taken from the waterfront of Rokko island, the colours of which contrasted greatly with the often grey surroundings.
  • Snapped this shot at Kitanotenmangu in Northern Kyoto. The subtle changes of colour here in this simple setup were incredible.
  • Looking North at Yasaka Shrine in Eastern Kyoto. I always feel that the lightning here give a foreboding feeling of welcome.
  • lanterns at Yasaka Shrine, each contributed by donation from private companies and other organizations.
  • The storefront of a converted Machiya (traditional Kyoto townhouse) in Gion.
  • The eery look of Yasaka Shrine at night.
  • One of my favorite things about Kyoto city are the mysterious narrow entrances. Each one just begs you to go and find out what's inside.
  • Sakura at Kyoto's Imperial Palace.
  • Early morning texture at Arashiyama in Western Kyoto.
  • The view from Arashiyama at 6am.
  • Hiei-zan, taken from Arashiyama at 6am
  • Everyone from the young to the old was out and enjoying Kyoto's cherry blossoms in early April.
  • Old railroad in Eastern Kyoto, now mostly used as a walking path for tourists during cherry blossom season.
  • A maiko slips by the crowds of tourists at night.
  • The eery lighting of Gion at night.
  • Colours like these play a large part in giving Kyoto it's relaxed and traditional feel.
  • Among the hundreds of statues found at Okagi Nenbutsu-ji Northwest of Arashiyama, only one of them took a moment to relax and take in the sun.
  • The rich greens of the bamboo forest near Arashiyama.
